I just got my 2017 trd sport and didn t realize until a couple days after bringing it home that it only has the b pillar vinyl on the driver side. The vinyl pulls out from under the seals without removing them.

For what it s worth though i m pretty sure it s only aesthetic because the black tacoma s don t have one. In my opinion toyota rushed the hell out of this design. Aesthetically i think the black b pillar does a great job of making the 2nd cab look less clunky. Look at the tundra and you can see it is properly done by attaching a molding that goes straight across both doors in between and adding durable plastic not cheap a vinyl like 1000s of models of cars since the mid 90s.

Carbon fiber halo b pillars come with the factory style flanges for easy installatio. I don t think it s there for wear protection or any other functional purpose. Every other tacoma that.
